SCRAPSnewyork: Season 1.0
Share
When I launched SCRAPSnewyork, I knew one thing for certain—I was going to figure it out as I went. Season 1.0 (DIY - do it yourself) was always meant to be exactly what it was: raw, exploratory, and personal. It was a season of firsts, a season of learning, and most importantly, a season of doing.
DIY or Die
SCRAPSnewyork has always been about making something out of nothing, and Season 1.0 was proof of that. From concept to execution, I was a one-man team—designing, producing, marketing, and documenting every step. I learned things the easy way, and I definitely learned things the hard way. But that was the point. I remained curious, determined, and willing to take on the challenges that came with building a brand from scratch.
Exploring, Questioning, and Becoming
There were moments when I questioned everything: Is this worth it? Am I doing this right? Will people even care? But doubt never stopped me from exploring. Every decision—whether it was about design, storytelling, or community—pushed me to define what SCRAPSnewyork truly stood for.
And that’s when it started happening. People began embracing the brand. Some supported it wholeheartedly, while others critiqued it. Both were necessary. SCRAPSnewyork wasn’t just a clothing brand; it was becoming an identity, a statement, a mindset. Through it all, I stayed open to feedback and kept building.
Community Over Everything
One of the most fulfilling parts of 001 was realizing I wasn’t doing this alone—not really. Even though I was the one making it happen behind the scenes, SCRAPSnewyork started resonating with people. A community was forming, piece by piece. That’s the kind of foundation you can’t force; it has to be built authentically, and that’s exactly what 001 did.
Opportunities Gained, Opportunities Missed
If I said I capitalized on every opportunity, I’d be lying. Some slipped through my fingers, either because I wasn’t ready or simply because I didn’t see them for what they were at the time. But every missed shot became a lesson, not a loss. The reality of building something from the ground up is that you’ll never have everything figured out in the beginning. The key is to keep moving forward.
Art Basel: The Debut
One of the highlights of Season 1.0 was bringing SCRAPS New York to Art Basel. That experience reinforced everything I had been working toward. Seeing the brand exist in a space filled with creatives from all over the world was both surreal and validating. It was a reminder that SCRAPSnewyork wasn’t just an idea—it was something real, something tangible.
What’s Next?
Season 1.0 was about setting the foundation, experimenting, and proving to myself that I could do this. Now, with that experience behind me, the vision is clearer. The purpose is stronger. And the work? It’s only just beginning.
